In a bid to go green, Google Inc has entered into a 20-year deal with NextEra Energy Inc to buy wind power to power its data centres, said Urs Hoelzle, senior vice president, operations, Google in The Official Google Blog.
The deal comes less than three months after Google invested $38.8 million in two wind farms in North Dakota, developed by NextEra Energy Resources.
Beginning from July 30 Google will purchase 114 megawatts of wind generation from NextEra Energy Resources Story County II facility in Iowa, the blog adds.
"Incorporating such a large amount of wind power into our portfolio is tricky, but this power is enough to supply several data centres," Hoelzle added.
