Asus launched M70 in India

The notebook and motherboard manufacturing company has announced its new laptop M70 in India. The great new feature for the M70 is the 1TB harddrive that this laptop will support.

Although there is still no launch date which has been fixed yet for this product, but we expect to see this soon in stores. The Asus M70 comes with a 17inch widescreen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio.

In addition to these, the laptop has a 1.3 megapixel built-in swivel web camera, Altec lansing speakers and home theatre system.

The processors in which this model will be available are the latest Core 2 Duo ones from Intel. Right from the T7500 to the T9300 chipset.

There is also a 256 MB graphics card from ATI (Radeon HD3650). Upto 4GB of RAM is supported on this.

Lenovo Launched IdeaPad U110

The IdeaPad U110 has been launched keeping the stylish people in mind. The design of the laptop is pretty neat to say the least. It is appealing to the eye and the laptop comes in various colors.

The laptop weighs around 1.05 kgs. The U110 is about 18.4mm thick and comes with a LED screen which is brighter than the screens you get these days.

Amar Babu, the MD of Lenovo India looked very confident on the launch of the laptop. "Customers end up compromising either looks for technology or technology for looks. This no-compromise ultra portable notebook from Lenovo offers both. We're confident the much-anticipated IdeaPad U110 ultra portable notebook will excite customers and give them a unique and rewarding computing experience." he said.

Other features of the laptop include -

- 120 GB HDD
- Up to 3 GB RAM
- Built-in web cam
- WLAN, Ethernet and Bluetooth connectivity*
- External DVD burner
- Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium OS

You can also go ahead and get an additional battery to extend your battery life of the laptop. The laptop comes with face recognition software for automatic login and harddrive protection from damage.

The price of this is very high to say the least, at around Rs. 98,000 this one could be missed.

Nokia N800 Series Internet Tablet

The Nokia N800 is latest addition from Nokia in the Internet Tablet market. The N800 comes with a VGA camera which can mainly be used as a Webcam. It has a 4.13 inch screen with stereo speakers.

The Nokia N800 comes with  Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth as well. You can't say that the N800 is too much better than the 770 in looks, infact the N800 is much wider than the N770. One thing that the N800 has which the N770 does not is the extra SD card slot. The N770 had a RS-MMC card slot so this is just a minor update.

We still don't know the difference in the processor and RAM specs but if there isn't too much difference in that I don't know why did they bother to bring in the update at all. The downside to both these internet tablets is the lack of GSM/CDMA compatibility. Why can't they just add the mobile feature after doing so much hard work!

Motorola MC35 Enterprise Digital Assistant

Motorola recently announced a PDA which is actually being advertised with a new lingo known as a EDA - Enterprise Digital Assistant. The handheld device is capable of delivering good quality voice and data applications. The device is one of the first to be labelled as an EDA, but for the layman its as good as a PDA.

The Motorola MC35 comes with GPS functionality, WiFi, Bluetooth V2.0 and EDGE. The phone can work with Tri-band GSM networks and runs on a Intel XScale PXA270 416MHz powered by the latest Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system.

The Motorola MC35 is to be launched at a price close to $600 and is pretty expensive to start off with, but we expect the price to drop as competition increases.

Google Inc has held talks with gaming companies as it looks to develop a new service to compete with social networking website Facebook, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The Internet giant has had talks with makers of online games for the service including Playdom Inc, Electronic Arts Inc's Playfish and Zynga Game Network Inc, the report said.

The report said is unclear when the new offering will be launched.

Google Launched Google Apps For Government!

Google has introduced a new Government Edition of Google Apps. It includes all of the features of other Google Apps editions, but adds policy and security features. Google says it was designed with guidance from the federal government, as well as the Cities of Los Angeles and Orlando.

Google Apps for Government stores Gmail and Calendar data in a segregated system located in the continental United States, exclusively for government customers.

The company also announced that Google Apps is the first cloud app suite to receive Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) certification and accreditation from the U.S. government. Kripa Krishnan, Technical Program Manager on Google Apps for Government explains:

The FISMA law applies to all information systems in use by U.S. federal government agencies to help ensure they’re secure. The federal government’s General Services Administration has reviewed the documentation of our security controls and issued an authorization to operate, the official confirmation of our FISMA certification and accreditation. This review makes it easier for federal agencies to compare our security features to those of their existing systems; most agencies we have worked with have found that Google Apps provides at least equivalent, if not better, security than they have today. This means government customers can move to the cloud with confidence.

Google Apps for Government is available for any federal, state or local government in the United States.

Google, IBM Dominate Developer Cloud Computing Landscape

Google and IBM are the leaders when it comes to cloud computing, according to a recent survey of developers from market research firm Evans Data.

The twice yearly Evans Cloud Development Survey found that 40 percent of software developers picked Google as the top player in public cloud computing, while roughly 30 percent picked IBM as the best private cloud provider. The survey queried more than 400 software developers at the end of June 2010.

"Most developers expect to be in a hybrid situation going forward with respect to application deployment in the cloud," said Janel Garvin, CEO, Evans Data, in a statement. "And these two vendors are perceived of as best filling the two main requirements for either public or private clouds; i.e., security and reliability. With no other vendors even cloud in perceived leadership, it's likely that we'll see IBM and Google dominating the cloudscape for the foreseeable future."

The Evans Data survey comes on the heels of a report from research firm BTC Logic that listed Amazon and IBM as the top cloud providers.

Evans Data found that developers perceive Google as the leader when it comes to setup, infrastructure and application management in public clouds. The developers surveyed felt similarly about IBM and how those attributes play in its private cloud offerings, Evans Data found.

According to Evans Data, developers also found that the ability to move applications between public and private clouds is becoming increasingly important, and ability to move from the public cloud to the private cloud is especially important.

Along with highlighting that Google and IBM are leading the cloud computing charge, Evans Data also found that 80 percent of developers surveyed found that it's important for cloud providers to give 100 percent backward compatibility as their cloud infrastructure matures. Additionally, 60 percent of developers are concerned with government geographical restrictions with cloud deployments. Lastly, the majority of developers agreed that better encryption is the most sought after security improvement for public cloud computing.

In a bid to go green, Google Inc has entered into a 20-year deal with NextEra Energy Inc to buy wind power to power its data centres, said Urs Hoelzle, senior vice president, operations, Google in The Official Google Blog.

The deal comes less than three months after Google invested $38.8 million in two wind farms in North Dakota, developed by NextEra Energy Resources.

Beginning from July 30 Google will purchase 114 megawatts of wind generation from NextEra Energy Resources Story County II facility in Iowa, the blog adds.

Apple iPhone!

Apple has definitely pulled out a rabbit from the hat with the latest launch of the Apple iPhone with 3G. Although the phone is a bit thicker than the previous version you won’t notice it at all.
